Are PopUp’s Still OK? June 9, 2008Posted by gordonwatts in life.
Every modern web browser blocks them now. This is default behavior, as far as I know, on all distributed browsers. So how is it that web sites still consider disabling this behavior a proper thing to do?
I was just visiting a web site connected with a journal when I got the warning: “Pop-ups are blocked on your web browser. In order to use this web site please disable this feature.” This website was turn-on less than a month ago. What the heck? Plenty of warning — shouldn’t have have designed there UI so pop-ups weren’t required?
The other thing that gets to me is these sites that disable password memorization in your browser. I’m not talking about my bank, or similar – those have obvious direct monetary consequences. It’s the other sites that do this. I have so many passwords to memorize already – in order to keep them different I use my browser cache. I can’t tell you how often I have these sites re-email me their password. Often I just don’t even log in. Grrr. 🙂
Ok. Enough ranting. 🙂
