Middle East Spill Over July 28, 2006Posted by gordonwatts in life.
We first figured out something was up while driving down a street packed with rush hour traffic. In Seattle, packed means really really packed. And then emergency vehicles tried to cut a lane down the middle. I’ve never seen so many jammed intersections before! One was a fire truck and the other was a multiple victim emergency response unit – which I’d never heard of before. But Julia was not at all happy about this: the pitch of crying and sirens really sets one’s teeth on edge!
It wasn’t until we got home and were able to look at the web sites that we figured out what was going on. A fellow unhappy with Israel shot 5 or 6 people outside the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle – about 3 blocks from where Paula and I live.
A fellow I talked to on the street summed it up pretty well: “There is too much hate.” Indeed.
