Blair House Burns Down May 15, 2006

That cabin is where the UW physics department takes its brand new graduate students when they arrive at UW for the first time. It is a day long retreat. Some professors come along and spend the night, and the next day are a lot of hikes ending in a BBQ near a nice lake nearby. I'm not sure how long this tradition has been going on at UW, but a very long time. And the cabin is also quite old. And 100% wood. I've stayed the night on that outting twice; it is a lot of fun and a great way to get to know the new students.

It is gone now. I have no idea what we will do yet for the incoming class of 2006, but we will figure something out. But it won't be the same. I'll miss that.
