Dinner at the Honors House April 26, 2006Posted by gordonwatts in university.
I was invited to have dinner (Pizza!) at the Honors house this evening. These are two floors of students in the honors program at University of Washington. This dinner is self-organized (which is very cool) — and they get a someone over and pepper them with questions for a few hours. They have had a congressman (I've already forgotten his name), Emmert, the president of UW, and other people of similar ilk. And then there was me.
It was a little scary at first: "So, what do you want to talk about??" "Uh… no one told me I had to talk about anything!" They asked about quantum computing, schrodinger's cat, Fermilab, what I do on test days out in Chicago. It was a lot of fun. I totally forgot to haul out my camera and get a picture, however. Oh well. Perhaps when I get invited back in 10 years. But what a fantastic idea!
This happened to me once before. But it was a sorority function. And they served chocolate covered strawberries. I s*** you not. They were tasty. And they didn't ask questions, just were honoring a bunch of their favorite teachers.
