Is that a Fish in your Suitcase? April 13, 2006Posted by gordonwatts in travel.
A friend of mine works on robotic fish. A recent email from her describes a minor run-in with airport security and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA):
Just gave a talk and brought the robot with me. Turns out that TSA actually unscrewed a side panel of the robot to disconnect the batteries (and lost an o-ring in the process). Would have been nice if they'd left a note as to what they did…
What impresses me is what the TSA must have gone through to do this: Decide to open the suitcase it was in, figure out what it was, say "ok, side panel is what we need to check", figure out the battery is connected (and that the battery looks like!), and then know what to disconnect! And they didn't leave a little "TSA was here" bit of paper.
I wonder if she found out when she put the fish in water and it sank? 🙂
