I always Wanted To Grow Up… April 10, 2006

Posted by gordonwatts in life.

CIMG6693A long time ago, in another blog, Caolionn declared official adulthood when she and Sam got a washing machine. So, what does it mean when your washing machine goes south!?

And the failure is weird. The picture you are looking at is the bottom of the motor which is (normally) attached to a pulley, which holds a belt, which spins the washer basket. The bottom half of the pulley fell off and the belt shredded. What a weird failure mode. Essentially, it was a weld the failed. Nothing simple (like a belt breaking). And not simple to repair, unfortunately.

We'll be using the laundry mat again this weekend. Perhaps that means we are young again!? 🙂

[…] Our washing machine broke a week ago. We didn't have a lot of time so we though we'd use Sears to fix the thing. The have a nice web sign up tool which is pretty easy to schedule a visit. Today, between 1 and 5pm. They even called last night to make sure they remembered. […]

[…] We've got three of them at home. A decent sized server which sits headless in the laundry room (sight of another type of recent failure), an old old Shuttle that drives a photo display out in the living room, and a new shuttle that is my office machine. The old shuttle died this week. This is particularly scary because it holds one of my backup copies of all of my pictures (I'm up to 45 gigs of pictures now!!). […]

3. Life as a Physicist » It is all about timing… - July 18, 2006

[…] Still nothing. But, guess what? With the impending 100% increase in laundry load… our washing machine has failed in a rather noisy way! And it was new in April too. Repair? The agitator is busted, but it is in warrantee, which means we need to do it officially… and the soonest a repair person can get out is almost 2 weeks from now! Life. Good! […]
